Ippei Tanaka
Born in Tokyo in 1985. Graduated from the Master's Program in Intermedia Art at Tokyo University of the Arts. After working as a research assistant and assistant professor in the same department from 2011, he has been involved in the project manager of the human resources development project "Diversity on the Arts Project (DOOR)" with the theme of "welfare and art" since 2018. From 2023, he will be a special lecturer at the Co-Creation Center Promotion Organization of the Care & Communication Area of ​​the Art Future Research Institute at Tokyo University of the Arts. In addition to his university duties, he also creates personal works, and in 2018 he moved his atelier to Komoro City, Nagano Prefecture. He has planned and produced group exhibitions such as Salon de Vert's "Harmonious Wildness" (2021) and Koisuru Buta Kenkyujo's "ART FOR CONVIVIALITY" (2021). Using metal materials such as iron, he creates moving installations that utilize the randomness of movements created by nature, independent of the artist's intentions or operations.

In this exhibition, I will be exhibiting and selling works related to the theme of "presence," which has been my theme for many years. I express myself in a variety of forms, including moving metal sculptures, objects, drawings, and silkscreens. I think of my works as devices that somehow re-generate within the viewer a presence that has been picked up by my sensors. Even if a work does not necessarily move, I think it plays a role like a device that stirs people's hearts. In addition, the theme of "welfare and art," which I have been involved in as my main job for the past few years, has also influenced my expression, and I will be exhibiting new works.
