This work was created during a residency (art stay) in a small cabin deep in the forests of Karuizawa.
Outside the cabin, a vast expanse of nature stretched out before me. I created these works intermittently over time, much like recording daily events in a diary.
Almost every day, I chose to work during the twilight hours. I felt that this was the time of day when light and emotions changed most subtly. What I tried to do was not simply capture a single ray of sunlight. I tried to depict the entire surrounding environment that drove me to create—the very feeling that the wind was guiding my hand from behind.
The sound of the river, the rustling of the wind, the scent of the forest, and the cool air that arrives with the night air—all these inspirations blended together, naturally shaping the spirit of the mountains that resides in the artwork.
