We will hold a "mail art" workshop. Mail art refers to the act of sending art, which is established as a form of artistic expression, by treating letters and postcards as artworks and performing the act of sending art itself. We usually send postcards, envelopes, and parcels by mail, but how many people know that we can actually send anything in a variety of shapes? The purpose of the workshop is to break through our unconscious assumptions and stereotypes that we "have to do this" by changing the shape and material of the mailed items, and to experience the surprise of receiving a work of art. This time, we will prepare craft materials and postage stamps at the museum and have participants create works, which they will then send to their homes or parents' homes to experience the above. This originates from the mail art that Gutai's Shimamoto Shozo sent in the 50s, such as "dried squid", hiragana cutouts, and Gutai journals.

At the Karuizawa New Art Museum
We have launched a new workshop!
The workshop is called "Let's Have Fun with Mail Art."
Participants ranged from families to adults, from visitors who happened to be passing by to people who had traveled far from Tokyo and Toyama after seeing the event on Facebook.
Participants included elementary school students living nearby who saw a flyer and decided to participate.
The recipients were diverse, ranging from friends and family members such as grandparents and elementary school teachers, making it a workshop unique to the summer vacation.
Those who finished making their craft expressed satisfaction, saying things like "It was fun" and "I'm glad I was able to participate," and it seemed like they had a more fulfilling time than they had expected.
Next month, on Saturday, August 8th, we will be holding "Let's Enjoy Mail Art! Part 15"
The event has been decided.
